From Tripolitania to the Pyramids
Contrasting the Greek and Roman sites of Libya with ancient Egyptian civilisation, including Leptis Magna, Sabratha, the treasures of Tutankhamun and the Pyramids
Day 1 Fly from London Heathrow to Tripoli. Transfer to the 3-star Hotel Yosser for four nights.
Day 2 Visit Sabratha, formerly a wealthy trading port, with its skilfully reconstructed theatre and museum with many fine mosaics. Return to Tripoli via Janzour and visit the Punic catacombs.
Day 3 Visit the National Museum and old town of Tripoli with time for individual exploration or to visit the souks.
Day 4 Visit the major sights of Leptis Magna, once the largest city in Africa and the second city of the Roman Empire. Visit the Roman Villa Selene to view its beautifully preserved mosaics.
Day 5 Fly from Tripoli to Cairo and transfer to the 5-star InterContinental Pyramids Park for four nights or alternatively add the three-night Apollonia & Cyrene extension before continuing to Cairo.
Days 6–8 Two included half-day excursions: the Pyramids and Great Sphinx and a guided visit to the Egyptian Museum. Additional optional excursions available.
Day 9 Return flight to London Heathrow.
Extension - Apollonia & Cyrene
This 3-night visit is available on Days 5–8 before continuing to Cairo on Day 9. It includes Qasr Libya, with its marvellously preserved mosaic panels, ancient Cyrene and its port of Apollonia, internal flights, two nights at Hotel Manara or Hotel Qasr Al Beyda and one extra night in Tripoli.
