The word ‘Riad’ originally denoted, in classical Arabic, a garden and came to be used to describe an urban home with an Andalusian or Moorish patio garden. Today’s definition is accommodation of traditional character from the conversion of these town houses, where rooms normally look inwards to the interior patio. The riads lie in quiet locations inside the medina, ideally suited for those who want a unique, central base with Moroccan character, from which to explore Marrakech. All are about 10 minutes’ walk from Djemma el-Fna Square.
