Cyprus

In a privileged position in the southern Mediterranean Cyprus has absorbed influences from and preserved fascinating traces of ancient Greeks and Romans, Crusaders, Byzantines, Ottomans, Venetians - and even the British! Still sadly physically divided (although the border through Nicosia is now open) the island offers landscapes of rugged coastlines, sandy beaches, rocky hills and forest-covered mountains.
