The Colours of Provence & Beaujolais

The landscapes and heritage of the Rhône, Saône and Camargue

6 nights from £787

The waterways of France offer an enchanting view of the beauty of the French countryside and the historic interest of its cities, towns and villages. All too often this magic is lost by the reality of motorway journeys and crowded roads. The landscapes of Provence that so inspired Cézanne and Van Gogh and the scenery and historic towns of the Camargue and Rhône valley may be enjoyed from a floating accommodation. Burgundy has a rich and colourful history whose greatest glory lies in the magnificence of its Romanesque architecture, although some may prefer their fine wines! Vienne was both a Roman and medieval provincial capital.

Lyon is the second city and undisputed gastronomic capital of France, its centre a UNESCO World Heritage site lying in part between the Rhône and Saône rivers. The most famous of the many beautiful bridges lies, of course, in historic Avignon, the main residence of seven Popes. The delta of the Rhône, France’s greatest river, has created a fascinating region known as the Camargue, one of Europe’s greatest nature reserves with some 350,000 acres of wetlands, dunes and salt flats. Its unique composition of flora and fauna and pasture provides grazing for sheep, cattle and the white horses for which the region is famed.
