An Erupting Experience
A winter sojourn in Taormina, at an exceptional off-season tariff
4 nights from £315
The final goal of the ‘Grand Tour’ was originally Naples until the 19th century when Phillipp Hackert’s paintings of ‘Ports of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies’ inspired travel to Sicily and Mount Etna. Even in the ‘thrill-sated’ 21st century the minor eruptions of Etna have continued to fascinate visitors. The Mediterranean vegetation has been influenced by the volcanic eruptions, climate and lava to create a unique environment as the lava desert at 10,000 feet is approached.
Nowhere of comparative size in the Mediterranean can compare with the historic treasure house that is Sicily. Taormina, where our choice of hotels are located, is an immensely picturesque resort which enjoys a mild winter climate. It also benefits from a scenically captivating coastline and an excellent position overlooking the sea on the slopes of Mount Tauro. The attractive narrow streets and dramatically situated Greco-Roman theatre encourage independent exploration during the quieter winter season.
