Day 1 Fly from London Gatwick to Porto and transfer to Coimbra for two nights at the Quinta das Lagrimas. Dinner is included this evening.

Day 2 A morning tour of Coimbra includes the historic university buildings. The afternoon is at leisure to explore the town’s medieval centre or join an optional tour to the ancient city of Conimbriga, the largest Roman settlement in Portugal.

Day 3 Leave Coimbra for the forest of Bucaco and home to a former royal hunting lodge, now a fascinating and historic hotel. Continue to Caramulo, a former spa town and now home to a famous museum of vintage cars and an art collection. Continue to the Hotel Urgeirica for a three night stay on half board. Enjoy a cheese and wine reception prior to dining in the hotel’s traditionally furnished restaurant.

Day 4 Spend a morning at leisure before participating in a guided tour of the 16th-century manor house and gardens at Santar.

Day 5 This morning visit the regional capital of Viseu. An afternoon at leisure or join an optional half-day tour to Serra da Estrela, the highest mountain range in Portugal. End with a tour at the Museum of Bread.

Day 6 Travel via the medieval stronghold of Lamego visiting its ancient cathedral, to Pinhão, the heart of the port wine producing region, and a visit to the 18th-century Vila Real, the Mateus Manor House. Continue to the Casa da Calçada in Amarante for a two-night stay. Enjoy a dinner of regional specialities.

Day 7 At leisure in Amarante or join an optional excursion to
Medieval Guimarães including a visit to the Quinta da Aveleda, a wine lodge estate set in magnificent gardens with an opportunity to taste the estates’ wine.

Day 8 Transfer to Porto for the flight to Gatwick or extend your
stay in Porto by two nights.

Two nights in Porto, including breakfast, at the 4-star Hotel Mercure Batalha. 149 air-conditioned rooms with private facilities, mini-bar and satellite TV.
