Vietnam has emerged from the ravages of history as the East’s shining jewel, a country of rare beauty and rich culture. Named after President Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam’s second city was once described by the president himself as “the flesh and blood of Vietnam”. Modern-day Ho Chi Minh City is a vibrant, bustling city, contrasting with the intricate waterways and tranquillity of the nearby Mekong Delta.

Capital Hanoi enjoys a slower pace of life; its tree-lined avenues and French influenced architecture sit alongside ancient temples and pagodas. To explore the labyrinth of narrow streets comprising the city’s Old Quarter is to discover over 1000 years of history. Nearby Ha Long Bay, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is host to over 3,000 rocky islets, spectacularly jutting from the emerald-green waters.

The ancient capital of Hue lies in a strategic position in the centre of the country and was home to the Nguyen Dynasty until 1945, their legacy apparent in its opulent palaces. South of Hue, on the country’s beautiful central coastline, is the former port of Hoi An, a rich architectural fusion of Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese and European influences dating back to the 16th century.
