An extended Mekong cruise through Vietnam and Cambodia on the newly inaugurated RV Indochine, from the River Saigon in Ho Chi Minh City to the great Tonle Sap Lake and Angkor Wat

14 nights including full board & sightseeing from £1995

The waterways of the mighty Mekong River are home not only to Southern Vietnam and Cambodia’s most important trading points but also to numerous small communities surviving as floating and riverside villages, whose customs and traditions have remained unchanged for hundreds of years.

The Saigon River is Ho Chi Minh City’s main water supply and feeds into the fertile Mekong Delta, where lush paddy fields produce much of Vietnam’s rice crop. The city is the heart and soul of Vietnam - bustling, dynamic and industrious, the economic capital and cultural innovator. Yet within this teeming metropolis are the timeless traditions and beauty of an ancient culture, set to a backdrop of thousands of years of survival on the Mekong.

Life further along the Mekong in Cambodia reveals floating and riverside villages consisting of stilted shacks on the riverbanks and moored houseboats or barges. Khmer inhabitants have survived here as fishermen for generations, their colourful communities defying modern civilisation with a traditional way of life. Beyond Tonle Sap Lake, connected to the Mekong River and a life source for thousands of Cambodians, lies the ancient kingdom of Angkor where Khmer ancestors constructed some of the world’s most impressive temples.
