Jordan’s Red Sea coast offers rich and varied excursions with easy access: Nabataean monuments in the rose-red city of Petra, stupendous natural landscapes in Wadi Rum and the lowest point on earth at the Dead Sea. As well as the established hotels in Aqaba town, Jordan is now developing the new marina and coastal resort of Tala Bay, away from the busier Aqaba town centre. Offering fine hotels and a growing number of shops and cafés, it lies about 20 minutes’ drive from Aqaba centre and boasts fine beaches with easy access to the coral reef for snorkellers or divers.
Additional interest lies in Aqaba’s status both as a port and more importantly as a resort fast developing its leisure facilities and where, in fact, King Abdullah has his second home. Surrounded by rugged purplish mountains, the temperature hovers steadily around 20°C in the winter months with a water temperature of around 23°C, making it ideal for scuba diving and snorkelling.
Note: On flights to Aqaba from September 2010 we will still be offering the extra legroom seats (34”) but additionally all passengers will benefit from an improved on-board service and have access to a Gatwick lounge on departure at no extra cost.
