The relative inaccessibility of the Galapagos Islands, situated some 600 miles off the coast of Ecuador, has helped to preserve the unique eco-system that sustains its diverse range of wildlife. Discovered as early as the 16th century, this utopian archipelago developed in obscurity until Darwin’s ground-breaking visit in 1835 that culminated in his Theory of Evolution.
