The Lost World of the Incas

Cuzco, the Sacred Valley of the Incas, Machu Picchu and Lima and a journey by rail through the Andes to Lake Titicaca

 
 

Day 1 Fly from London Heathrow, via Miami or Madrid, to Lima. Transfer to the 4-star Hotel José Antonio for a two-night stay.

Day 2 An afternoon tour includes the impressive
buildings of the Plaza de Armas, the UNESCO
World Heritage 17th-century church of San Francisco, the
hacienda-housed Larco Herrera Museum and the Museum of Gold.

Day 3 Fly to Cuzco. Sightseeing includes the Temple of the Sun, Cathedral and the Plaza de Armas, the imposing Inca fortress of Sacsayhuaman, the underground temple of Kenko and the Inca baths of Tambo Machay are also visited. Overnight at the 4-star Hotel Picoaga.

Day 4 Drive along the scenic Urubamba Valley, the so-called ‘Sacred Valley of the Incas’ to Pisac with its colourful market. Continue on to Ollantaytambo to view the best surviving example of Inca town planning. Two nights at the 3-star Posada del Inca in the pretty little village of Yucay.

Day 5 A full-day tour to the Indian village and Inca ruins at Chinchero, the colonial town of Maras and the Inca agricultural terraces of Moray.

Day 6 By train to Machu Picchu. Tour the ruins and overnight at the 3-star Hotel Hatuchay or Hotel Inkaterra Machu Picchu (or similar).

Day 7 A morning at leisure for independent exploration. Return to Cuzco and the Hotel Picoaga.

Day 8 Through the Andes on the highest train in the world to Puno, including lunch. Overnight at the 4-star Hotel Libertador Lago Titicaca on the shores of Lake Titicaca.

Day 9 A morning visit to the Uros Islands on Lake Titicaca. Return to Lima and overnight at the Hotel José Antonio.

Day 10 Return flight to London via Miami or Madrid or extend your stay on the Nazca Lines extension.

Day 11 Arrive Heathrow in the early morning.

 

Extension - Nazca Lines

The Nazca Lines are an enigma. They describe over 300 forms ranging from geometric lines to complete animal drawings and conceived on such a large scale that they can only be fully appreciated from the air. They are thought to pre-date the Incas and it is uncertain who created them or what purpose they served. The nearby Ballestas Islands are home to one of the world’s largest sea lion colonies
and significant populations of resident and migratory seabirds. Price includes all transportation, three nights’ hotel accommodation with breakfast daily and itinerary as
described.

Day 1 Travel by scheduled bus to Nazca and transfer to the Hotel Casa Andina Nazca.

Day 2
Morning flight over the Nazca Lines. Travel by scheduled coach to 3-star Hotel Las Dunas in the town of Inca (or similar).

Day 3 Morning boat tour of the Ballestas Islands. Scheduled coach transfer to Lima and overnight at the 4-star Hotel José Antonio.

Day 4 Return overnight flight to London Heathrow via
Miami or Madrid.

Day 5 Arrive early morning.
